System hard locked last night after extended use over holidays. It will now only post and bsod crash on windows startup:eek:

Reverted back to stock clocks {from what i remember them being!} but still dying on me....... I have a suspicion it may be dead/dying memory but have no idea how to find out? it does read 2gb memory on start-up...

Edit --- won't load in safe mode either btw

If you think it is memory, get a copy of memtest and burn it to disk, then run the test, it will soon tell you if you have faulty memory.

memory tested ok

give the memory and cpu abit of voltage see what happens

i dropped the clocks and kept voltages the same but no joy

The dos boot disc and scan might reveal bad sectors at the least.

well i tried this - created cd dos boot disk but scandisk would not work - my o/s {XP}is on a partitioned hdd.
I could navigate to the other half {e:}, but not the o/s partition {c:}

I am a bit skeptical i'm even doing it right though as when i went to my f: drive {my second hdd} it could not read that either, surely they both couldn't have popped

Hopefully that makes sense;)

EDIT :: Ran XP Recovery console and it crashes at 'examining startup enviroment' - **** it maybe it's time for an upgrade
