So there I was, just gone midnight thinking "ah sod it, I'll go to bed". I pick up my camera bag, forgetting I'd opened it earlier to check the memory card (as I couldn't beleive the fact I'd just found a 16gb card for £12, so was checking the type to be sure :D) and that's when it happened.

I threw a few grands worth of camera gear across the room, out on to the landing. I actually felt physically sick as I watched my 60D with the Sigma 1.4 attached, bounce away in slow motion, shedding what in my mind were pieces of camera and lens.

Oh, it was horrid.

As it turned out, the camera had somehow landed on a piece of old laptop equipment for the soundcard, smashing that, and the other bit that flew off was the lens cap. Still absolutely horrified, I turned the camera on expecting an error, but all it did was make a VWOOP noise as it cleaned the sensor.

The camera works perfectly. I've even taken a few test shots and it's not front/back focusing and the lens comes off the camera, and there's no damage. The eye piece was a bit loose, but pushed back in place.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

I really don't trust the 60D build quality, but it's still working!

To celebrate I just bought a refurb SSD from Crucial :D

Hehe, nice work.

I remember putting down my 10-20 once when stood on top of the Quiraing on Skye, only to see it start rolling, pick up speed and rocket off the edge of the cliff.

Never heard it crash though, so went and had a peak over the edge and found it had been caught about 20 feet down by a tiny bush growing out of the cliff. A couple of minutes of barefoot climbing, dangling and scrambling and I got it back :p

This is the risk you take when having a couple of beers when you're tired. Also a BT engineer turned up today, 2 days early and fixed my internet. Hurrah, back to 14mb. Although he disappeared to fix something at the exchange and didn't bother to phone me to tell me it was fixed, or what the error was at the exchange.

A good day so far. I think I'll win the lottery tomorrow, just to top it off :D

Haha, been there and did that with my 40D!

Was in a really bad mood, was clearing crap off my bed, was tired too, and was literally grabbing stuff and throwing it behind me, next thing I know the 40D is flying past my ear and I had an "OOOOHSSSHEEEEEEETT" moment, was I watched in slow mo and heard a sickening thud of my 17-40L taking the brunt of it.

Thank god for lens hoods :p :D

Don't push your luck.:D

Argh - I'm paranoid about dropping stuff and, in the space of five minutes, I read both this and a guy on TP who's 24-70 decided to fall off his camera :(

I'm too scared to use my camera at all now :p
