Somewhere Fabulous...
Hi people. I currently hav a dual core Opteron 165 running at 2.6 Ghz on both cores paired with an 8800GTS and an NEC 20WGX2 monitor running at 1680x1050.

Basically i would like to know if, at this res with high AA and AF, changing my opty for another 165 but one that i know will run at 2.8 at least make any appreciable difference to my frame rates. The change would probably cost me about £20 - £30 once my chip is sold, but i don't really want to do it if i'm not gonna see much of a difference. I haven't clocked my chip and higher as the temps hit just under 60 due to having to put about 1.47v through it.

So, worth the change or not?

BTW, i can't afford C2D at the moment, thats on the books for next year!

i would be supprised if you get anything more than a 1fps increase, probably not even that to be honest mate - even with a core 2 duo you wouldnt see THAT much of an increase

that £20-30 is probably better spent on a good night out this friday or something ;) :p

Im afraid your wrong there. There would be a very noticeble increase, esp at that res, 4Ghz Conroes bottleneck 8800s so that will.

Upgrading to Conroe, yes! worth it! 2.6--> 2.8 ghz AMD 64, no its not.

Thats what i was hoping to hear!! Glad i held off on that buy button!

I'll be changing to conroe in spring next year i shoud think, give me time to save the cash. Besides, with the GTS in my system at the moment its positively flying, haven't been this impressed with a graphics upgrade since my 6800GT!
