Okay, the missus is complaining that my PC is too noisy, even though I've just bought a nice new case and dumped my monsta of a Silverstone FM 121 Fan.

The Lian li PC-G70 I have atm has:

3x Lian Li ADDA fans, all at 1500RPMs - 1 intake, 1 rear exhaust, 1 gpu exhaust.

1x Hiper Power 580Watt PSU with a single 120mm Fan - this runs very quietly, so I don't think is a major contribution to the noise.

1x 350watt bog standard PSU with 80mm fan - pretty noisy.

1x Tt Big Typhoon with accompanying fan... runs at 1200RPM...

So I'm thinking, long term I'll be getting a custom WC setup so if I invest in some fans now to replace my case fans and re-use them on the WC Setup.

Can anyone recommend me a decent combo fan of silence and air flow ? I'll be shooting for a PA120.3 when the WC comes along, so the silence takes precedence over the air flow in the long term....

That’s your problem right there, those fans are awful and really loud.

Most peeps on here recommend Yate Loons, Nexus, Ambers and a manufacturer i am looking at now called 'Noctua' apparently they do great 120mm fans

Why do you have a second PSU? that 80mm screamer is probably adding a fair bit to the noise.

2nd PSU is for show off really, that and the fact I have a hungry beast of a PC to feed now...

PD [email protected] & 1.35v
Motherboard Overclocked
2GB RAM
HIS X1900GT @ 1.4v
Connect3D X1900GT @1.4v
3x Case Fans
1x Tt BT Fan

2x 80GB SATA2 Maxtor Drives (RAID 0)
1x 160GB SATA1 Maxtor
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
CDROM Drive
Floppy Drive

The 350Watt powers all my drives, leaving the Hiper plenty of elbow room to give some super stable supply to my main components.

As for fans, I'll check out the nexus fans... or maybe the yate-loons....

Any other suggestions ?

Well if you’re after silence at least change the case fans first or you can 7 volt mod them. Guide here

Once you have quietened them suckers move onto the next fans which are making a racket. You could always buy a decent fan controller also, so when your missus is out you can put the fans back up to full speed for performance ;)

Ah...it’s a long expensive road to silence, im still buying stuff for mine now.

Nexus fans win hands down for airflow to silence, or Yate Loons if you prefer to shift a bit more airflow.

Absolutely right but the Yate loons are better, the Nexxus are just Yates at 10v

You realy should be looking at Panaflo fans..

* Great CFM - Noise Ratio

* Excellent Quality ( Ive had mine for months now and they run sweet )

They also sell them in the Uk if you know where to look ;) :p

I'm going to 7v the fans tonight to see if that makes a difference.... hopefully so..

As for the second PSU, I may be looking at at a NorthQ Model thats rated 12-17DB and supplies 400 watts in a fetching blue colour...

Anyone seen/used these NorthQ PSU's ?

If you want pure silence at 12v go for Nexus, problem is they don't really push much air out, but they are quieter than ambers when undervolted to push a similar amount out.

Out of the acoustifan, nexus and akasa ambers I own I would say ambers all the way, they are quiet but still give out a good flow of air, the acoustifans produce more air but are noisier and the nexus as said above produce less air but are a lot quieter. They are also quite cheap compared to most of the other quality fans. :)

The ADDA fans really are dire. I replaced the three in my PC-60 with Ambers (possibly not the best but easily available) and the difference is remarkable.

Ditch the Hiper before it blows, and it will! Before you say it's been running fine for a year, so was mine until it blew last month and took my motherboard with it. I replaced mine with a Seasonic S12 energy+ 650w which only cost £97.34 delivered. It's silent and very stable and has quad 18amp 12V rails. It's also as much as 88% efficient which cuts down on the lecky bills a bit. :D
