HI folks, I'm getting a transfer within my company and moving back to the UK as I'm sick of foreign places, miss the freedom, the relative lack of bureaucracy and the money in the UK. The short of it is that I may need a studio or 1 bedroom place for about 6 months in or around Egham/West Staines with good public transport links (to Runnymede roundabout end of town). I'll have about £1000 p/m for rent and utilities (approx. as my salary has yet to be discussed).

I'm not from around there so have no idea what the good or bad areas are. Can anyone from the area give some guidance on the areas I should look for and also avoid.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info everyone, I did notice that it's little pricy in Egham. It's annoying not being able to have a look around myself, how nice an area is can be subjective as shown here by one person saying an area is fine and another saying it's bad. Street view certainly helps up to a point.

To be honest I'm not too fussy as I'm just looking for a cheap temporary place to stay for ~6 months where I'm not likely to get stabbed :):p that I can get to and from work on public transport. I set the limit as £1000 p/m as that way I'll be able to save as much money as possible in the time I'm be there. I'm paying £500 with bills in Prague so assuming I earn ~3x as much in the UK then paying £1000 means I'll have far more disposable income.

Please don't live in Feltham, it's rubbish.

The area in general is ok. Egham is very nice, as is Windsor. Nothing really wrong with Staines either. I've lived in Ashford for the whole of my life (next to Egham and Staines) and have found it excellent, although, like everywhere, it's got its bad areas of course.

Ask me anything you want!

No risk of you getting stabbed round here btw, although that may not be the case in Hounslow/Feltham.
Thanks :) Looking around, as you say the Egham, Staines and Ashford areas look reasonable at least scanning around on Streetview.

I'm going to be based in our Egham office so don't really have any need to live in or near Feltham apart from the occasional visit. Which is a blessing it seems from the comments here :)

I go to college in Egham, it's a decent area during the day. You occasionally get a bit of trouble in the highstreet at night with Gypsies and stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised if you stumbled onto a drug deal within the first few days but other than that It's good.
Gypsies (well Roma) and guys pushing drugs on the street are Prague's specialities, I've got used to them now :D
