Keep hearing good things about their line-ups. I'm in particular looking for a hedge trimmer, but would eventually like other tools in their range. It's quite expensive buying in to a new battery powered range. The cost of the tools themselves are fair, but add a battery and charger and end up more than the tool themselves.
I don't mind spending the money if they're really worth it. Their hedge trimmers in particular seem capable of cutting really thick branches, which would be ideal for my hedge.

Anyway, any experiences with their range?

You could do a lot worse than giving Lidl's Parkside range a try. Currently they have a 20v cordless hedge trimmer for £29.99, a cordless strimmer for £29.99, cordless pruning saw for £49.99 and a cordless lawnmower for £69.99. These are bare tools without batteries but add a couple of 4Ah batteries (£27.99 each) and their double charger (£19.99 and it's the quickest charging one) and you have a decent set of garden tools all massively cheaper than other brands and all with three year warranties. I have several Parkside tools and have never had any problems with them since I started buying them 5+ years ago.

I invested last year. Brilliant kit and super performance. The mower with a 4ah battery is unstoppable - wet thick long grass, no issues at all. I get 4 cuts on a charge (relatively small garden). Headlight is a gimmick but build quality is excellent.

I got the chainsaw - the new 16 inch which I got has a 20 m/s chain speed so similar to the real thing. Blows my old corded out the water, rounded up a 1m diameter cherry log with it, and then logged the rest of the tree. Super impressed.

The Hedge trimmer (went for the pro model) is much lighter than petrol, more powerful than my old park side petrol and 2ah battery lasts for ages.

I also got the entry level strimmer which is also excellent.

It was a big cost initially, but the warranty is solid and the quality is decent. 56V seems to be the sweet spot between power and weight. Ego, Stihl Pro Battery (which was higher cost) or the Husky battery stuff (which was either really budget or top money) are the only real competitors.

I would have went Milwaukee, but the mower is £1200!

I think I paid £419 for the mower kit with 2.5ah battery, £200ish for the chainsaw, £220 for the hedge trimmer and £115 for the strimmer. They had a spring deal and I got a 4ah battery for free.

EGO equipment has been great for us. I started with the self propelled 52cm mower and quickly added a strimmer, hedge trimmer and leaf blower. They've all been great, well designed and features such as the automatic power depending on load make them efficient yet powerful.

I also like the variable speed of the self propelled mower and also devices that have a general speed control such as the blower, strimmer have very smooth variable operation buttons unlike some devices I've used. We've cut our grass when wet and very long and it doesn't have the slightest of issue and I've used commercial grade petrol mowers of the same size that would only just manage that.

The 56 volt batteries that have air drawn through them by the charger fan which means very fast charging - our 7AH 56V charges in under and hour and smaller ones in 30mins or less. I am considering a battery backpack in future as I increase hand held tools and its clear they're marketing home and professional use with some models and accessories.

My machines are between 6 and 7 years old and I have not had any machine failures so the 5 year machine warranty wasn't needed. However I did have one battery go faulty one month inside the 3 year battery warranty and a local dealer swapped in for a new one without issue.

They are expensive compared to other battery garden tools such as the older Ryobi garden tools I have but they are vastly better.

I have been using the ego BAX1500 battery back pack, along with strimmer and hedge trimmer. Unfortunately (holding my hands up to having a numpty moment) i have sliced through the cable from the battery to the plug in and trimmer. I have repaired the cable temporarily but when I have looked into a replacement, Ego are quoting £97.90 + delivery :(:(:(
Does anyone know af anywhere that would supply a cheaper option, or know of any second hand stuff that the cable could be removed from and sold on?

Given those battery packs are £1K items and only available for a few years I don't think there would be a lot of used ones around. As the cable is heavy duty and designed for a life of flexing I don't actually think that price is too bad compared to a lot of spare parts.

I love the idea of these and looked at the vastly cheaper one where you put a battery on it, but it didn't work for me being left handed as the cable exits right so a little short for me.

Thanks Simon. I know that some things are expensive, but as a self employed gardener, I charge £15 per hour. So the cost of a simple cable is almost a whole day's wages for me. So I am trying to see if there might be a cheaper alternative. It is a long shot, but one I would love to find hits the target.
Thanks again

If you can't find an alternative/used part then do you have any local Ego agents? I've been to a couple and they usually offer a little cheaper than Ego direct and I'm not even trade and they can order any Ego parts.

I do have a local Ego agent, they were the first place i went to. But unfortunatley they were less than helpful.
Thank you for your advice and suggestions though. I really appreciate it!!
Kind regards,
Iain

Never heard of them.

Look a bit like Ryobi, I’d just go with them and you’ve got a full set of stuff at a really cheap price and they’re pretty good.
They are a little more upmarket than that - Ryobi are TTI's DIY toolset (with Milwaukee being their pro range). EGO are trying to cover premium DIY (hence 5 year warranty) and more affordable entry level stuff, and then competing with Stihl and Husky on the pro range of tools / mowers (hence they have a ride-on, big backpacks etc).

Hey all,
Sorry for reviving this thread.

Our lawnmower stopped working last year, and I've been considering potential replacements. I'm interested in the EGO range but am concerned about the number of complaints regarding battery failures and poor customer service.

Has anyone experienced issues with their batteries?

Also, where did you purchase your EGO products? Since EGO doesn't sell directly but only through agents, they recommend using https://egopowerplusuk.com/ (which is Henton and Chattell) or other agents (which a number near me only do local pickup). I looked up reviews for https://egopowerplusuk.com/ (and Henton and Chattell) and I can't say they inspire confidence either.

I understand that the majority of online reviews are from people facing issues, but the number of complaints about EGO and its resellers seems worrying

My oldest EGO machines and 4 EGO batteries are between 7 and 8 years old. Three of the batteries are still good and one had an issue just under 3 years of age and was swapped by a local dealer without fuss as I commented earlier in the thread.

All the oldest machines are still fine, and I've added some newer items over the years. 5 Year tool and 3 year battery warranty for domestic use says it all.
