Hey guys,

I need a laptop for my golf (long story short), so I was considering a eGPU setup as my laptop has thunderbolt 4 on the back.

My ram, cpu and ssd’s are good. It’s just a weak GPU (4060). What would you advise the best combo for this?

I was looking at a Razer core x eGPU and a Rtx 4070?

What do you guys think?

hey guys,

i thought about it and after some consideration, i thought i would try a eGPU and see how I get on..

i have a Chroma Core X and a 2080ti in it for now...but my question is, is that in my GPU panel and in the taskbar and in task manager it is showing both GPUs??

Do i need to do anything? like disable the dedicated GPU that is in the laptop? or just leave them, im not sure what to do on this??

@Rroff what did you do after setting up you eGPU?

Also, do you turn it off when you’re finished? As when I shutdown the laptop, I could still hear the core x fan spinning?

cheers

I tend to turn it off when not in use, but IIRC when the connected device turns off mine mostly goes to sleep.

One thing you might find with the Razor is that with an nVidia GPU you have to set it for maximum performance in the nVidia control panel or use notebook drivers for the GPU or it sometimes freezes at random when idle.

Thanks. When gaming did you disable anything?

Or can I select the gpu to use when in a game from the graphics settings on the game?

Usually a game uses whichever GPU is being used to display on the primary monitor, some games will let you select the GPU within them but that isn't a common feature.

I've not needed to mess about with settings too much.

well, not a good start..turned on the laptop, was in about 60 seconds, put spotify on, and then freeze!!!

I have disconnected the eGPU and seems OK now??

Funny you said that..

I plugged my G703 into it earlier and then it went funny.

No matter.. it’s getting returned. Sticking with my discreet gpu.

Thanks for your help though mate!
