Hi,

Looking for some help with an external gpu dock.

Have an MSI Pro DP20Z Mini PC with a Ryzen 5 5600G that I use for Plex/Home server. After upgrading my GPU in my main rig I wanted to add an external GPU to the small PC and use as a lounge/casual gaming computer.

The MSI has 2 M.2 slots, one of which as an SSD so, I purchased an M.2 M-Key to Oculink adaptor for the other M.2 slot and I brought the Minisforum DEG1 External GPU dock for the RX6800XT that I want to use in it. Powering it I have a spare Corsair 750W modular ATX power supply.

However, I can't get the external dock to show up in Windows in device manager. I had seen online that you have to turn the dock on before turning on the PC. The dock powers up and the rgb on the GPU lights up but when I turn on the Mini PC it boots into windows, but no sign of the EGPU in windows.

Anyone got any ideas on this, or what im doing anything wrong?

Cheers

try the other m.2 post, but it just may not be compatible

both of your m.2's are gen 3x4 you may not have sufficient pcie

I'd tried the other M.2 slot and no luck, so it looks like it may be thats the issue, lack of pcie bandwidth. I suppose the MSI DP20Z is a very basic unit, but i'd not thought about limited PCIE. Pity, looks like the Minisforum dock will have to be returned.

I could maybe look at buy  ing a newer MINI PC with a proper Oculink port, but it might work out more cost effective to use the 5600G in a small ITX setup. Dont know why I started down this rabbithole...was only looking for a use or a GPU!
