I'm running a 6950 unlocked to a 6970 on a watercooling block and have delved into the world of overclocking it this evening.
Before overclocking (running at 880/1375MHz) my GPU sat at 52C while running Furmark. It's now running at 980MHz Core Clck and 1450Mhz Mem Clck, max temp 50C.
Shame it crashes at 990MHz core with stock 6970 volts or I'd keep going until I hit load temps of ~40C. :p

(Bit of a random post but thought I'd share the discovery, time to up the volts!)

Here's the latest screenshot, managed to hit the 1GHz Core Clock with relatively low heat:

I still can't get over how bad the stock coolers on these cards are!

EDIT: Temps hit 50C max again but FurMark froze up after about 40mins. I'm not willing to go over 1.2V with this card so for a stable clock I'm going to have to lower the core clock and find it's limit. :(

WOW - that is an amazing chip. You must watercool or LN2 that and beat the world record. Is that with the stock cooler?

Yeah I can't complain.
Just managed a Vantage run at 998/1520 with 1.2V which has given me a pretty good score.
I'd love to see what voltage the top guys are using on these cards.

I managed 1008 on the core @ 1.21v under water, but my memory sucks and won't go past 1405 :( - http://3dmark.com/3dm11/670906

Does 975 on the core @1.1v but I leave everything @ 900/1400 @1.1v for gaming.

Sorry for the bad angle pic, only position I could rest the camera.

You'd be fine with 1.3 through the core if you're on watercooling, I've seen people run 1.3 through their aircooled 6900s with no issues and decent temperatures.

It is ok to use higher than 1.2v on the 6950/70 due to the superior components used on them unlike the 570s which can't be overclocked properly due to this without risking a broken card ;)
