Eiffel tower anti terrorism barrier

Its one of the stupidest things I've seen done in recent history. I'm sure the next mass shooting not being near the Eiffel tower is going to make a lot of difference.

I can just see ISIS fighters walking into, and then palming their way ineffectually around the glass barriers trying to find a way in like mime artists. I mean I’m guessing that’s what the French authorities hope will happen.

They only got themselves to blame.

People visiting it are going to be disappointed to find that it's been turned into a army checkpoint with huge blocks of rock on all sides so trucks of peace can't visit the tower and huge metal fences on all sides ruining the view.

We've got barriers around areas but it's done sympathetically in most instances for example:- concrete benches, and concrete plant boxes seem very aesthetically pleasing but they are also placed in areas for reasons of pedestrian protection.

This is making the Eiffel Tower seem safe to visitors but it doesn't make it any more pleasing on the eye.

When they try and do something potentially effective like turning back illegal migrants at the Italian border they get grief from the liberal elite and even Oxfam who are accusing them of abuse, which is a bit rich considering what their workers get up to with their hooker parties. Hard to win really...The last time an Oxfam collector came into the pub they got short shrift, and were quickly dismissed, as is the way many view these huge charitable businesses these days.

It’s probably more to do with tourist income. The Eiffel Tower is a huge tourist focus, high profile attacks their might reduce tourist visits and hurt the local income.

What's the difference with this compared to Westminster? It's an absolute mess of barriers, and really ugly looking ones. At least these look a little better than bollards slightly thicker than what you expect to see in flood protections

I didn't realise this kind of thing was happening..

Is it just me or is this kinda pointless ? Putting up walls to me is a victory for the terrorists.

It's more common than you think truck stop barriers are hidden all over the place. Now.

The arsenal sign outside thier stadium in front of where people queue is actually a heavily reinforced truck stop barrier

So the terrorists reading about this are thinking "ok, we'll just attack somewhere else that isn't protected".

Exactly...they have to pick a less densely populated, less effective and less disruptive target.

They aren't claiming to stop terrorism theyre just trying to minimise its effects .

I will never understand the mindset of "well if we can't totally solve the problem in one act we shouldn't even try progressive improvement"

Well it will as currently and for quite some time they've had a temporary fence set up like you'd find outside a building site.

Looks a right mess a permanent solution is needed
