So i've just fitted this block onto my card, without snapping anything! :D

There's 2 metal rings included in the package, but the instructions dont say what they're for... does anyone know?

Also, should I tighten the water plugs up with a spanner or just tighten them with my fingers?

Spanner or fingers:

And, what are these?

Sorry about the picture's, my camra's a total load.

Hi Jay

They aint washer things, it is hard to see them properly on that pic. But the two at the bottom of the pic are actually thick metal rings, like mini chav rings

And at the top of the pic there is a rubber washer type thing, that fits into the groove of the rings.

Meh, i'll just not use them, can't be that important if they didn't make it onto the instructions :p

The washers will be for whatever threads there are for the watercooling pipes to fit onto. Ive never done watercooling (yet). Will be to help it seal (im guessing). And spanner tight, but not too tight. I assume these will need teflon (PTFE) tape on the threads too, just to help prevent leaks.

Can't see the pics clearly, but if they have grooves for the o-rings they will be spacers to extend the barbs further out from the card if required.

Tighten the barbs as much as you can by hand then finish with a 1/4 to 1/2 turn with a spanner.

i've got the 19xx version of the block which is almost identical, they're just as DaveMac says, spaces that go between the barbs and the block so the thread from the barbs doesn't go too far into the block itself and reduce flow.
block|spacer|barb.

as for the other question, get them finger tight then a little extra twist with a spanner

hi mate,

Fitted an EK 8800GTX last weekend. I would advise really tightening the barbs with the o rings quite tightly. I tightened them with 1/2 a turn of a spanner and the damn things leaked when i tested the loop. I ended up tightening them as far as i could with a spanner.

Just my advise.

I've just leak tested my loop now actually. And yeah, they did leak :( so did 4 other connections ^_^

Yeah so, everything leaked in my loop! lol i fail

The barbs are as tight as i can get them, and they still leak. What do people recomend? I was gonna buy a glue gun and just smeer some of that everywere?

Dont overtighten barbs with o-rings, this can have opposite the desired effect and break the watertight seal. You could try using some PTFE tape instead of the barbs which is my personal preference tbh.

I dont have any o-rings, that's probably why everythings leaking.

What do i do with PTFE tape? I'm guessing you rap it round the threads of the plugs?

that's exactly correct :) wherever you got the block from demand some o-rings

My EK blocks all came with long barbs and all the barbs had o-rings. Eddy says don't use a spanner - just hand-tight, but I reckon he must have really strong hands so I give them a quarter turn with a small (4") adjustable spanner.

Thanks guys,

I got o-rings with my EK block for the 2 plugs, but I already a bunch of 1/2" fitting barbs so I used them on 3 things ( res, pump, EK block ) and all 3 leaked

It took me ages to tube everything up, and putting that masterkleer tubing onto 1/2" barbs is harder than I thought it would be! I dont realy want to have to change all the barbs if I can help it...

What would be best, using some PRFE tape on o-ringless barbs, or just buying some new barbs with o-rings, like the high-flow DD barbs?

:(

Can't you just slip the o-rings off the EK barbs? - they should all be G1/4 and I don't think the o-rings are specific to those barbs.

I could, but both connections on every thing in my loop is leaking

I'd need about 8 more o-rings from somewere..

Screw it, i'm just gonna buy some of that tape, and new barbs ( mine are just cheap-o's that dont work! )

You don't need new barbs m8, just wrap some ptfe tape around the threads (a couple of rounds should do it) then screw them in finger tight and finish off with half a turn or so with a spanner.

You are getting leaks because you don't have a watertight seal.

If the existing fittings you had were 1/4" BSPP instead of G1/4 then you will need PTFE tape to seal the threads as these don't usually come supplied with o-rings.

You'll get a roll of PTFE from any hardware / DIY shop for about £1, way cheaper than new barbs.

Before putting the tape on check that the threads are compatible as there are quite a few very similar looking types commonly used for watercooling than won't work together.
If the fittings don't go all the way in with almost no effort then the threads could be different, forcing them on will lead to more problems.
