EK Bayres D5 noise

I have finally finished building my new loop. Now that I have solved the hub issue, everything is nice and quiet, except the D5 in the BayRes. I have used D5s before and they were always whisper quiet - but this one seems excessively loud.

If I run it below about 1800RPM it quietens down, but is still the loudest component in the build (5 Noctua fans - chromamax and redux). Wound up to full (around 4000 rpm) it it very loud. I have captured a recording from inside the case on my phone - You can hear the pump at about 1800, then ramps up to max, then back to 1800. The background noise isn't as loud as it sounds on the phone, but the D5 is. Is there a problem with the D5?

Can't get youtube to take the file so here is a link to it in Onedrive - not dodgy honest ;)

Sounds pretty normal to me. Mine have always sounded like that.
This being a bay res, you might be getting more noise/vibration transmitted into the case structure, as there will be more contact points than a typical tube res... which also tends to have better decoupling/dampeners, too.
You notice the noise most when the revs change, so most people just run them at full tilt and the noise just fades into the background.

Thanks for that - makes me feel a bit better about what I have ended up with - The D5 in the Bayres is removable so I might consider pulling it out and getting a tube top for it

I had a Monsoon bay res with the D5 it was mounted with 4 grey rubber dampeners and even on full chat it was silent, the only time it ever made any noise was after maintenance when the impeller was cavitating due to trapped air but one bled and the inlet / outlets and impeller were under water it was silent.
It's now in my lads rig in his living room in his flat next to the TV so I guess its still silent!

Hmmm... I wonder if the D5 is damaged - I think I have an old one in the garage - might have to pull it from the system and do a little testing - it really is anything but silent - which surprised me as they have always been silent in the past (never had a D5 in a bayres though) - Hopefully I can drian it and pull it far enough out the front to change out the pump without having to de-tube the back.

I'm not convinced it is pushing as much flow now either - when I filled it, it ran at full speed and there was an almighty rush through the res - now it seems far calmer... I appear to have swapped performance for noise

I find my D5 quite noisy (EK-XRES) at anything above 2000rpm, it's a high pitched whine which is quite annoying, especially with the pump ramping up and down. I just have it fixed to 1800rpm and it seems fine.

Those numbers match mine exactly - odd - almost like there are different batches out there, or it is to do with mounting and vibration. I wonder if isolating the bayres from the chassis would kill the noise

Odd. I'm running a Xylem D5 at 4800rpm 24/7 and even if I'm close to it, nowhere near that kind of noise. But I have another D5 that does make more sound (although less than your audio file, probably). Maybe the bayres is indeed amplifying the sound/vibration somehow.

Quite loud, but I wouldn't blame the pump only.
Many moons ago, with the Phanteks Enthoo Primo, depending on which bays the reservoir + pump was mounted, I would get more noise. The best results was on the lower bays.
To discard that, I would be tempted to run the pump with it's reservoir outside the case, so check if the noise is really coming from the pump.
Another thing is when one of the filling ports is open or slightly open, the noise is amplified, badly.
After bleeding the system, a week or so and not even the tiny bubbles around, I keep mine at 80% (but not a bay reservoir, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ek-w...rgb-pump-reservoir-combo-plexi-wc-9wu-ek.html ), just because the alphacool blocks are very restrictive, and the pump is inaudible. At 100% I would be able to hear it if all the fans are at minimum RPM, but still, would require effort to notice it.
