would love some advice from all the folk on here, appologies if this is too long.

During an upgrade i knocked a resister on my 7950 DCii v2 , so i went for a direct replacement. whist waiting for it to turn up i figured why not take a look at the resister that i knocked, it was still in place but loose one end. With some somewhat delicate soldering i got it back on the board and was pleasantly surprised to see it working. So now i have a working card and its replacement on the way, so i figure ill get these x-fired. Not the best cards to have sat next to each other with about 7mm between them so im looking into water cooling the pair.

Being that they are not reference boards the only option would appear to be universal gpu blocks, but I don't think this would work either as one of the VRM is directly above the GPU possibly blocking the universal block.

after a few days research I am 90% sure that the EK-FC7970 DCII waterblock will fit as the compatibility checker on the EK site shows the board looking pretty much like the 7950 albeit with some caps out of reach of the waterblock are in a different config.

I have a mock-up based on the compatibility checker though at this time i have not uploaded it to the net

Ive scoured the net to try and see if this has been tried but not had any luck.

Your feedback on this would be appreciated

Hi diagro, thanks for the reply.

I gave their support team an email, I got a prompt reply asking for photos of the board but then over a day later their response was they dont have a block to fit the card. I am tempted to get one and offer it up but if it doesnt would I get a full refund?...

Here is the mock-up I made based on the compatibility image on the ek site

Added the purple box to represent where the block would go

and here are the two images together, as you can see, the 7970 has a couple more caps on the right, but from what i have seen from images of the block on the card these would not be affected.

a further reply from EK is a no, but this is based on visual rather than physical. They recommend a universal gpu block, but i think i have less chance of this fitting with the VRM module being where the input/output would sit.

Gday britishpsycho,

howd you go fitting the EK-FC7970 onto the 7950v2? Im intending to do the same, provided it worked for you :P

Cheers,
Adrian
