I recently decided to replace the thermal paste on my i7 5930K. I lay the computer on its side, unmounted the waterblock, made sure to clean
off the old paste and applied the paste using the pea size method, Mounted the waterblock back onto the socket making sure it was snug tight.

Booted up the PC , got to the desktop and the computer shut down.

So I rebooted went into the bios and saw the temperature at 80°C and would not stop rising so I shut the PC down.

This was overclocked so I booted it back up and set the bios to default. Waited until it cooled down and turned it back on, I went into the bios and noticed it at 40°C and
it kept rising so I had to turn it off again. The fans were spinning as normal increasing in rpm as it got hotter.
The red light that indicated the pump was working was on.

I made sure the waterblock was making contact with the cpu even with it unscrewed I could feel it sticking to the cpu.

I removed the cooler from the computer and lay it down in different positions to see if that would have any affect. Mounted it back in
and started up the computer againbut it didn't make any difference.

I lay the computer on its side and rebooted it and it seems to have normalised the temperature as if the pump was working as normal but
the pump sounded like it was moving a lot of water. I left it on in the bios for a few minutes turned it off then stood it back up. Turned it back on went into the bios and
it was back to the temperature rising again.

I am not sure what the problem is, The pump is definitely acting strange.

Are you sure you've mounted the block back on correctly, with temps going up that fast doesn't sound like it.

I'm pretty sure its mounted correctly. I even checked the installing guide video to make sure it was installed the correct way. Unless the block was rotated differently but when I first installed it I followed the guide step by step and it was fine.

It sounds like the pump isn't working when upright - could be that water levels are too low and you're getting an airlock or similar. Possibly rearranging the setup would help, like keeping the radiator so the tubes are at the bottom, but I'd look into topping up the fluid

Are you getting any gurgling noises? Any evidence of a leak?

Yes I can hear gurgling noises and no I could not find any leaks. The sound seems to go away after about 10 seconds but when it is on its side I can continuously hear it.
