Hi,

The launch of new graphics cards by Nvidia has caused one of the biggest water cooling manufacturers to release a new GPU block (Vector) and a new range of CPU blocks (Velocity). The GPU's have the same design as previous water blocks and offer the same variety of design.

EK description of the GPU water block:

"The water block directly cools the GPU, VRAM and the VRM (voltage regulation module) as cooling liquid is channeled directly over these critical areas. These newly developed water blocks feature a redesigned cooling engine that has a larger footprint compared to the previous generation of EK® Full Cover water blocks. This results in a larger surface area for heat transfer which increases the thermal performance of these water blocks.

The EK® Vector Series water blocks use an Open Split-Flow cooling engine design which proved to be a superior solution for GPU water blocks. It is characterized by low hydraulic flow restriction, which means that it can be used with weaker water pumps, or pumps running on low-speed settings and still achieve top performance. The jet plate and fin structure geometry have been optimized to provide even flow distribution with minimal losses and optimal performances even when used in reversed water flow scenarios."

The CPU blocks have a new design compared to the well known EVO CPU water blocks that EK have been so successful with.

EK Description of the CPU water Block:

"EK® Velocity series CPU water blocks embed the 5th generation of the award-winning EK® CPU water block cooling engine, further tweaked for performance and optimal coolant flow! Low hydraulic flow restriction enables this product to be used in setups using weaker water pumps or lower pump speeds for added silent operation, while still achieving top performance! The water block also comes with the most sophisticated RGB lightning implementation on the market to this day. A total of 24 LEDs are housed under the aesthetic shroud which connects to a standard 4-pin 12V RGB header."

Below are a few examples of what EK have to offer on the new ranges.

I hope there is a big jump in performance on those cpu blocks to justify the big jump in price.

All cpu blocks state "No longer available" in your links by the way.

Hi,

Just sorting an issue with them at the moment.

Edit: They should all be available to pre-order again shortly.

Comments on their Instagram post talk about a redesigned base and jetplate, so there will be a performance increase. Whether it's a 30% performance increase to match 30% cost increase is another matter...

I'm in for the full Nickel - can you tell me if you are expecting stock of the Nickel RTX back plates next week also? I know they seem to have a long lead time but wondering if you have sold your stock already or I can order and expect them sometime next week (2x).

Cheers!

Hi,

The Nickel backplates are always a couple of weeks behind of the rest of the products. I believe they will land around the 10th October but hopefully sooner. EK expect stock around the 6th - 7th October so shipping is usually a few days.

We have 6 remaining of the first batch but I wouldn't worry to much we can get more if they sell out it will just be an extra week.

Ok, probably get my order in and see if you can split delivery potentially. Cheers!

CPU blocks do look nice but I’d want to see a jump in big jump performance before I ripped my supremacy out of loop. It has be worth the time and the money

The velocity blocks are pretty hnngg. I’ll be using the plexy/nickel in the future. I like the look of the new 20 series blocks, though they’re not that different.

Still trying to find a block for that Gigabyte OC Black 1080ti before I order.

Unlikely, seems to be the way these days. It seems like they’re still making Supremacy, suppose they need to differentiate them somehow. I honestly think that we won’t see much improvement in blocks in the future, unless some radical discovery occurs. Or we all strap AC units to our intake (wouldn’t be the first time :D)

There's a massive boost to RGB performance :p

As with usually though, this gen will give a 2-3% performance increase over it's predecessor at most. The only reason people ever upgrade a water block is for aesthetics or because newer brackets are no longer available.

Hi, I've got one (Vector Acetal RGB) for my (incoming) 2080 ti Duke.
Is it normal that it will watercool the mosfets only (talking about the vrm) and not the chokes as well?

I think everyone has hit a brickwall now and it will take a completely different design to get any further performance gains. Alphacool tried it with the XPX and while it jumped ahead of EK's blocks it's only by a tiny margin. We haven't really had any big performance gains since jetplates became standard.

Do the plexi blocks now use tinted plexi or are these just badly lit renders? While they look pretty it would appear the lighting isn’t quite right and someone has gotten carried away with drop shadows.

I like the new tinted plexi on the Velocity.
After the Supremacy Evo and the Hwatkiller IV (both nickel / plexi) the clear effect won't attract me anymore.

Ah so it is a thing then :) I’d prefer to have the tinted one too. I’ve never really been much of a fan of the clear EK GPU blocks.

Im sorry, but I just received this block today, and yes I understand the addition of the LED's isn't worth £20 odd more, however, ive not done anything different to how my supremacy evo was fitted, still used AS5 for the TIM, same amount etc, shaved 8oC off my CPU temps compared to the AM4 edition of the supremacy I had, whilst running 50 passes of IBT standard, temp now is 62oC / 63oC, temp before was 70oC / 72oC

To be honest, I hated that block, and OCuk edited the review I left of it to just say "Another great block from EK", that's not what I said, well not completely anyway, I said as the fittings are not removable from the block, don't buy this block if you system is already setup and installed, its a nightmare to fit against the stock AM4 backplate, whilst screwing one fitting in, the other 3 are swinging around potentially scratching up your motherboard, only buy this block if you've not already installed your motherboard, otherwise buy the intel version and the AM4 adaptor kit all supplied with stand-off's, making it 10 times easier to fit.
