Thing I've always been puzzled by is given the need for intake fans in a case to ensure positive pressure, why the intake side is so much more unattractive? Exposed wires, the plastic support strut things... it's just not very pleasant to look at, especially if you have at the bottom of a case. I'm sure this doesn't bother most people, and in many cases you won't see it, but I have 2 intake fans at the bottom of mine and I don't like it lol!

If in doubt plug it in outside your case and see 
The frame to hold it all together needs to go on one side. Radiator fans work better in push than they do in pull so might as well hide all the junk on the side that is less likely to be seen.
Sounds like you're getting intake and the out confused.
