Heya,

I've never heard of this so have no idea exactly what its for. Assume for twitch streaming with use of a camera.

Friend in work has bought it for her son, but on the spec its saying min spec of 2nd gen i5... She's trying to run it from a laptop with a not so great spec.. The laptop is the Phenom triple core 1.9GHz, which will imo not run it.

So my question is... Is there any point in her buying the Gato as it clearly will not work correctly.

It's a capture card, mostly for recording consoles as it's more flexible than the built in options on the new consoles (so as above, streaming while having a camera overlayed etc).

Not really worth it with that spec. You might get away with offline recording at lower capture settings (offline recording with the elgato tends to be more flexible with specs as it can fall behind on the rendering and catch up once you stop recording).

Streaming, it's unlikely to work right. You might get away with it in basic mode, where it lowers the stream quality. Stream commander (mode needed for adding a camera) or OBS will both start dropping frames and just not work.

I wouldn't keep it with that spec.

It's for use with streaming/recordinng mainly over a PC to add more options and greater control. So if you go on Twitch there will be console players playing at higher resolution, quality, overlays, webcams etc that's what something like this allows it to do.

If that's her spec then i wouldn't bother, recording might be ok at a lower quality but streaming might not be all that great.

Plus it also depends on how your internet connection is. You really need fibre to make a good quality Twitch stream or else it will just be blocky and naff.
