Elden Ring lagging and hitching on AMD GPU/CPU...any ideas?

Hi,
I recently reformatted my PC, and am suddenly finding that Elden Ring performance is suddenly really poor. I know the game has never been brilliant but prior to my reformat, it was fine so not sure what's happened.

Running on Ryzen 7 5800x and RX 6800XT with 32GB RAM on a 3440 x 1440 monitor on High (No RT). I have the latest Adrenaline drivers running on Windows 11.

The frame rate counter is showing around 60fps which would be fine but there is a lot of micro freezing and hitching that's making the game pretty unplayable. Also seems to crash at times too, again which it rarely did before.

If it had been like this before I could understand it but it wasn't doing this before. Even setting graphics to low does not fix this so it cant be related to settings being too high.

It can't be a recent game update too, as if I run this on my Legion Go the game runs smoothly even if at lower frame rate. I have tried looking online and some of the suggestions such as Borderless Windowed, setting performance to high in windows, etc but nothing seems to help. I even tried completely removing the display drivers with DDU and reinstalling but this did not fix it.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes I'm using the Xbox Elite 2 controller connected via USB..wonder if issue with the controller or the cable
You could try disabling steam input for the game:

Right Click Elden Ring in the Library > Properties > Controller > Disable Steam Input via the drop down menu.

I had issues near launch where any interruption to the controller input via mouse and keyboard caused my game to freeze for several moments or stutter horribly, doing that alleviated it for me.

Unfortunately, that did not fix the issue. It still happens, even when I use mouse and keyboard.

One thing I did notice though, I went into device manager to check if I had any warnings about drivers. i didn't see any warnings but I did notice hat the device manager keeps refreshing every 10-15 seconds. This does seem to be similar interval to the Elden Ring issue. However, The other game I have played recently, Fallout 4 does not seem to experience these micro freezes.

ER at launch had all sorts of performance issues with hitching for one reason or another, have you tried VSync off in game, and if I recall some had issues with the anti-cheat system which needed moving off core 0?

Device Manager constantly refreshing might be a sign of some piece of hardware or driver continually reloading/restarting, anything in Event Viewer? Do you have the AMD chipset drivers installed, maybe try reinstalling them?

I don't know about the game itself but if you haven't done so already, make sure when you check device manager you have hidden devices enabled. It may give you a clue of any hidden problems.

In event viewer in the system logs I have this message....but I have no idea what it means!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
Windows.SecurityCenter.SecurityAppBroker
and APPID
Unavailable
to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

@Justnotsleeping Those types of error you can generally ignore, everyone will have warnings/errors in their log entries, not all of them are indications of a problem with the PC. This one likely relates to an incorrect permission in the registry and will have no impact on the use of your PC or its performance.

What I would be looking for in Event Viewer is under the System entry, any error/warning relating to hardware or drivers that might indicate something isn't loading or is restarting following a fault.

Elden Ring is notorious for having stutter issues on PC - it's never been resolved. I had it until recently, running a 5800X3D and ultrawide monitor. But since upgrading to a 7800X3D and using a 4K OLED LGC3 the issue has disappeared for me. Is it a resolution thing ? Elden Ring doesn't support wide screen. For people with Intel processors, e-cores seem to cause stutter.

That's the weird thing about it, if it had always been like this then could understand it. I have not changed my hardware at all but although was never fantastic it was definitely better prior to the reformat.

The most surprising thing is how much smoother it feels on the handheld Legion Go. Even though its only running at around 48fps, it does not stutter and micro freeze anything like it does on the desktop which on paper is quite a bit more powerful from a GPU perspective at least, even though i guess the cpu architecture on Z1 extreme is a bit more modern.
