Hi,
I recently reformatted my PC, and am suddenly finding that Elden Ring performance is suddenly really poor. I know the game has never been brilliant but prior to my reformat, it was fine so not sure what's happened.

Running on Ryzen 7 5800x and RX 6800XT with 32GB RAM on a 3440 x 1440 monitor on High (No RT). I have the latest Adrenaline drivers running on Windows 11.

The frame rate counter is showing around 60fps which would be fine but there is a lot of micro freezing and hitching that's making the game pretty unplayable. Also seems to crash at times too, again which it rarely did before.

If it had been like this before I could understand it but it wasn't doing this before. Even setting graphics to low does not fix this so it cant be related to settings being too high.

It can't be a recent game update too, as if I run this on my Legion Go the game runs smoothly even if at lower frame rate. I have tried looking online and some of the suggestions such as Borderless Windowed, setting performance to high in windows, etc but nothing seems to help. I even tried completely removing the display drivers with DDU and reinstalling but this did not fix it.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

You could try disabling steam input for the game:

Right Click Elden Ring in the Library > Properties > Controller > Disable Steam Input via the drop down menu.

I had issues near launch where any interruption to the controller input via mouse and keyboard caused my game to freeze for several moments or stutter horribly, doing that alleviated it for me.
Unfortunately, that did not fix the issue. It still happens, even when I use mouse and keyboard.

One thing I did notice though, I went into device manager to check if I had any warnings about drivers. i didn't see any warnings but I did notice hat the device manager keeps refreshing every 10-15 seconds. This does seem to be similar interval to the Elden Ring issue. However, The other game I have played recently, Fallout 4 does not seem to experience these micro freezes.

In event viewer in the system logs I have this message....but I have no idea what it means!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
Windows.SecurityCenter.SecurityAppBroker
and APPID
Unavailable
to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

That's the weird thing about it, if it had always been like this then could understand it. I have not changed my hardware at all but although was never fantastic it was definitely better prior to the reformat.

The most surprising thing is how much smoother it feels on the handheld Legion Go. Even though its only running at around 48fps, it does not stutter and micro freeze anything like it does on the desktop which on paper is quite a bit more powerful from a GPU perspective at least, even though i guess the cpu architecture on Z1 extreme is a bit more modern.
