Elder Scrolls 5 - Is It Coming?

I hope they listen to the fans criticisms of Oblivion, mainly the enemies being capped to your level, and I'm also hoping for a less clunky outdoor engine with less pop-up. It was a bit too obvious when it switched from the low to high detailed terrain grids. I still put tons of hours into it though and loved it overall. The thieves guild had the best quest line IMO.

I would say its already being worked on (but I doubt we will see it for a long time). Fallout 3 was most likely in development alongside Oblivion (towards the end of its development cycle) so why not start work on a 5th Elder scrolls game after Oblivion had been shipped?

Also they began working on Oblivion in 2002 right after Morrowind shipped so I imagine they have done the same again, especially with a game as big as TES.

I've heard on the BethSoft forums that ES5 is apparently going to be an mmo. Imagine the whole of Tamriel, free to explore .

The whole reason that enemies were levelled was because Bethesda listened to the fans complaining about Morrowind, and about how the monsters were too easy. In fact, pretty much everything about Oblivion that people complain about was put in to counteract complaints about MW.

I had read a while back that Bethesda trademarked the name "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim" shortly after making the oblivion expansion. Apparently they did it in a certain way, the same way as they did it for the names Oblivion & Morrowind a few years before both of them came out.

If anyone is wondering, Skyrim is the snowy mountainous area north of where oblivion was set & is the home to the Nords :)

Could just be roumor, but I dont see why they wouldnt have started at least some work by now.

I think the whole MMO is abit too saturated for BethSoft to head into there; even then, to go down the MMO route, is to lower the graphical details so that "Everyone's" pc can run or they'll loose out in the Market.

Nice idea but I'd prefer that they release a ES5...
but that's just me.

The only thing that worries me, is them dumbing the game down for the crappy consoles.

Pre dumbing down E3 footage showed the full potential of oblivion only for the pc.

They registered www.elderscrollsonline.com that's all, companies do it all the time. Doesn't mean it's "apparently" going to be an mmo.

Only the uber fans (i.e. me) were annoyed with the levelling system, the other 99% of players didn't even notice, by making the game casual and popular they sold a huge amount of copies. Expect much of the same from TESV.

I do expect a choice at the beginning of the game though, whether or not things level with me.

Im sure it will be another dumbed down console game, oblivion was a total disapointment for me after putting endless hours into morrowind, the levels just ruined it, they made a vast majority of the game serve no purpose as you could get all the best gear just by killing leveled enemies, and dont even get me started on the exponential difficulty curve the expansions seemed to pose.

Whether or not it sold more, it suffered heavily in my eyes as a game due to the level system alone.

It could "apparently" mean its going to be an mmo, just not definetly. The reason companies purchase those sites is to fuel various rumours, various "apparentlies" (is that even a word?).

I'd be 50/50 on an mmo, mainly cause as someone mentioned that the market is becoming saturated with them. Just give me the whole of Tamriel to explore and I won't care about the dev times, it'll be worth it :p.

Aye spot on there. The major gripes that everyone seem to have about Oblivion is the stuff people wanted to be in the game after Morrowind :p

For me this sort of game is all about starting out as a complete gimp but spending hours upon hours and eventually becoming the all mighty so you can take your revenge on everything that use to gank you.

Doesn't happen in oblivion which really sucks, oh look a common bandit in the best armor available
