Bethesda's parent company establishes new MMO-focussed studio. Let speculation commence!

Could the Elder Scrolls RPG series be heading to the world of the MMO?

Well, that's what we're speculating following the announcement that the parent company of Bethesda Softworks has established a new studio focussed on creating MMos.

ZeniMax Online Studios is headed up by Matt Firor, formerly at Dark Age of Camelot developer Mythic Entertainment (or EA Mythic as it's now known).

Currently there are no concrete details on any projects planned by ZeniMax Online. All we have to go on is mention of "an innovative and high-profile next generation MMO" in the descriptions for job positions with the new studio.

But MMO is an obvious avenue for the Elder Scrolls series to explore.

Firor has said that ZeniMax has given him "the chance to make great online games in an environment that I feel comfortable in".

IF this is true, then this could be potentially the greatest MMO ever made.

I dont believe this for a second, im sure Bethesda have said many times in the past that they would never add multiplayer to the Elder Scrolls games. I think it'd be crap if they did, just doesn't suit MMO imo. Maybe this is for a new IP.

Might or might not work. I'm only really interested in first person RPGs that actually involve you doing the fighting yourself. Oblivion thus being the only one I've played (well, I'm still playing it...)
If it were done in the oblivion style though it wouldn't really work as is, given the amount of time I sit there in the inventory thinking about which spell / weapon to choose in the middle of a fight.

A Dark Messiah MMO with kicking would probably be good ;)

Never really thought much of the Elder Scrolls world though - it's just more orcs 'n elves rubbish, and doesn't have much to distinguish it from all the other pointy eared tolkien clone worlds out there.

Probably won't stop them trying to shovel it out as an mmo mind you :p

LMAO, I never knew that Oblivion was only single player, haha what a n00b.

An interesting concept but would be an epic fail and would spoil the name of the Elder Scrolls series.

i agree it would spoil the elderscroll series. tbh though i know that bethesda make superb games, well atleast oblivion was, so whatever mmo they make its surely to be one of the best. I just hope they hire more staff for this project as oblivion took way too long
