Has anyone here fitted an electric bathroom radiator/towel rail like this one?

My bathroom is quite large and the ceiling is 12ft high and despite having fitted tonnes of insulation when I refitted it recently it’s still quite hard to pre-warm it on a morning so I’m thinking of adding an electric radiator to help out. There’s no way I can fit an additional normal radiator but it would be relatively easy to fit one of the electric ones above.

looking at you link - they do not seem to publish energy consumption - if it is effcient the output 760btu=>220W so may take a while to warm up ?

as dxp55 just said, a fan heater (or halogen?) maybe a lot more pleasant.

Is under floor heating an option at all?

Takes the chill off the floor and can have it on a thermostat or timer.

That's a good option, especially if it's just a vinyl floor that wouldn't be a disaster to rip out. Wouldn't be keen on smashing up a tiled floor though just for underfloor heating.

Save yourself some some money and buy from their eBay store with free delivery:

I work for a competitor and whilst I sell this towel rail not in electric form. Any questions just ask.

Towel rails don't tend to kick out that much heat to heat the whole bathroom, that and electric costs more to use. No option in getting a bigger/thicker radiator instead? What do you currently have?

I can’t rip up the floor as I’ve just fully refitted the bathroom and the tiles were very expensive!
The current radiator is quite a large triple column one and gives out a good amount of heat but due to the size of the room and ceiling height it still takes a while to warm up the room. I did consider a fan heater, it would certainly be the easiest solution but can’t find any nice looking ones that would fit in with the overall style of the bathroom.

There seem to be some nice looking halogen heaters, does anyone know what they’re like? Would they be powerful enough?

I've never found towel rails to give out much heat to the room really especially in older houses, all our towels rails in our house are plumbed in and also have an electric heater element in them mostly to dry off towels in the summer months and on electric they do take an age to warm up and don't really warm the room much. Luckily as ours is a self build we can get away with it as the level of insulation is bordering on insanity.

Update. I’ve bought a nice looking electric towel rail which should give out a reasonable amount of heat once I get it wired up tomorrow (1800mm x 450mm with 700w element)

But I think I’d also like to add a nice looking fan heater for those times when you want to quickly warm the room. I’ve searched and searched but can’t find anything that isn’t ugly white plastic. Has anyone seen any nice looking ones before?

Trouble with a towel radiator is people will instinctively cover it in towels meaning nice warm post shower towels but very little additional heat!

Fan heaters all tend to be ugly unless you have a cupboard you could fit onto into like a kitchen plinth heater, have you considered just turning the heating on a bit earlier?

Might also be wirth considering a infra red heating panel could be flush mounted to the ceiling.

Thread resurrection.

I've fitted an electric towel rail but as suspected, it doesn't warm the room much. I've now got a triple column radiator on one wall (via central heating) and an electric radiator on the opposite wall but due to the height of the ceiling the room is still a bit chilly, even if I have both radiators on together.
I've tested using a portable fan heater and that warms the room up load better so I've been trying to find a nice looking modern wall mounted fan heater without success, they're all ugly white bulky things. Whilst searching I found a half decent over door air curtain thing https://www.hygienesuppliesdirect.com/products/prod251362-mylek-remote-control-overdoor which looks ok however it's not rated for bathrooms. It would be fitted above my door which is a good 2-3m away from any taps/shower. Is that ok or do I need to keep searching for a specific IP rated fan heater?

That one you've pointed to, despite not being near taps etc you would need to take in to account steam and general very high humidity levels I'd have thought (I am by no means an expert so may be wrong , just an observation.)

Are you talking bath or shower ?? - I have found if you put wall mounted fan heater on as you get in shower it is hot when you get out - I usually have a shower then turn fan on when I get out - it is like a body dryer and quite warm - I do have a body dryer in ceiling but at 9kw it's very expensive but good.

I can't get any heat in my bathroom even though it's a small one - It is tiled floor to ceiling and floor is wall to wall - That is main problem - At my last house the bathroom was down stairs with boiler in the old coal house - I plumbed a rad in to bathroom direct off boiler so as soon as hot tank called for heat the very large old rad came on also and by heck it was warm in there.

Have you got a picture of this monster bathroom?

Have you done a BTU calculation? Triple column rads kick out mental heat. What size is it?

You can get blowers that attach to towel rails to circulate the heat.

I'd add to that how hot are you trying to get the room and how far from the boiler is it? If the boiler is a long way away and you haven't balanced your rads you may find your big tripple column rad takes ages to actually get to temperature!
