AN ELECTRIC bike rider has taken off the road for a year and fined, after being caught twice driving without insurance, without a licence and without a helmet in the first case of its kind in Guernsey.

Anyone riding an electrically-assisted bicycle more powerful that 250 watts or with a top speed of more than 15.5mph needs these documents.

David Hutchinson’s electrically-assisted mountain bike could travel up to 33mph, police found when they tested it.

If there going hammer down on electric bicycles like this then they should also make these bicycles have a number plate.

Not true. He'll still be allowed to cycle on the roads

Am guessing he also still be allowed to ride a bicycle with a electric motor up to 250watt..

Bit of a stupid law

That just means you can ride your 1500watt bike till you get caught (THAT IF you get caught ) and then just limit it if you do

What the braking distance like on these e-bikes that do 30 to 40mph compared to a 50cc scooter/motorbike ?
