Just received our first electric bill from npower.

£311 for 6 weeks! How is that even possible.

We apparently used over 1800 KWh during the day in this period. That's 42 KWh per day. This is also actual readings not estimated.

Central Heating is electric and I use my PC maybe 5-6 hours a day at most and myself and girlfriend are at work and Uni respectively during the week.

Should I get somebody round the check the meter is working correctly. I wouldn't mind if I was growing weed or something but I'm not.

Help!

20p and hour for first 94 KWh and 15p after that I believe.

2 bedroom apartment, we use heating maybe an hour or two each evening. It's economy 7.

Central healing isn't on a timer or anything we put it on as and when required usually 1-2 hours a night. Would this use so much electric on it's own?

Might ask the neighbours if they use their heating. The entire building has electric heating (100 apartments).

I guess I will have to purchase some warmer clothes.

Not being funny here but rather than checking this thread 5 times in the last 5 minutes you should be on the phone to the electric company.

I hope your not one of those kids who gets there mother to do everything for them.

Actually I'm at work earning the money to pay this bill. The account is in the girlfriends name so they won't speak to me anyway.

The readings are all correct, we changed to npower when we moved in and the start readings with npower match the final readings with the old company (who were used for 2 months till we got switched).

I think I will question the Tarrif prices with them based on what you say manic_man. Using as much as we have this past 6 weeks even 4 pence per unit would save 71 quid.

Just been looking at some Scottish Power tariffs, they seem a lot cheaper than npower. They appear to have a tarrif aimed at people that have electric heating too called "Online Energy Saver 7"

Pretty Cheap.
