Anyone know of any reports that detail how much power a computer consumes and how much they cost to run on a weekly/monthly basis ? Would be interesting to see the true cost of running a beast :)

surprisingly little

ive seen calculations of the forum before and i was pleasantly surprised

search through some older threads and youll find the actual values :)

My PC uses 150w idle / web use. Encoding is 280w on line monitor. Seems it was like £.30 / day Don't know what monitor uses as I usually remote desk top from notebook.

I done some research on this for my college project and depending what system you have and what leccy policy your on (fixed or price per unit), the cost can vary greatly.

A stock i7-2600k using onboard gfx, but going full tilt all day, 5 days a week @13p/kw consumes something like £70 a year (or there abouts).

That figures out that i7-2600k @ 100% is drawing less then 90watts x 24hours x 5days x 52weeks.

You have worked that out to be ~70Watts for that machine.

It depends on what system you have.

I have a Core 2 Quad Q9450 undervolted to 1.1V, 7GB ram, 2 HDDs and SSD and it pulls 125-130W at idle so about £130 a year if i leave it on 24 Hours a day 365 days a year.

dell zeon 3.2 ghz dual hard drive server with screen turned off burns about 38p a day acording to the APC UPS software i am looing at..

I have an energy monitor and whilst playing games it is costing me around 9p per hour. Out of games it costs around 4p per hour.
