Hi, I use my garage has a workshop for my hobbie. The old wooden doors are rotted out and I need to replace them. I have been looking at electric roller doors, but apart from carador which are made down the road from me and are very expensive at nearly £4000 fitted for a single garage door, I don’t know anything about other manufacturers in the U.K. I know that most of the doors for sale on eBay are Chinese origin and really don’t want to purchase a poor quality item without any warranty or backup. So can anyone please let me know how they get on with their door and if they had to call on the warranty how that went. It’s a pity that it’s come to the point in this country that you can’t trust anyone Including companies. Thanks

I have no experience of the small domestic roller shutter garage doors, but the larger commercial ones I have bought have come to me secondhand and for little more than weighing in money. Be sure, if buying used, that ALL the necessary fittings come with them! The last one I bought came from a company called Ambasadoor, but as they were in Stockport, or Hazel Grove in Cheshire, they're probably too far away.

I wouldn't dwell on the powered side of things, a motor can be added later if you find a suitable manual door at a good price. A big part of the cost is fitting, which is pretty simple if you are a good D-I-Y person with a decent basic tool set and a competent helper.

If you're not driving stuff in and out regularly i'd suggest a manual roller door, they're much cheaper and a lot faster to open and close, the only down side is you can't do it remotely from inside your car.

I've got 2 on my garage and am really pleased i didn't go for an electric one compared to one a mate of mine who did, mine takes about 3 seconds to put it up or down compared to him stood there pressing the button for over a minute.

I paid £795 I think for an electric rolling door operated by a fob. It takes about 15 seconds to open so I press it as I leave the front door and it’s open when I get to the garage.

We got gliderol ones - insulated and electric. Perfectly happy with them - was around £1100 per door from memory!
