Electric supply to Log Cabins

Hi folks,

I have a family friend who lives on a large plot of land, which also has fishing ponds attached (they run a membership for locals) and have decided to install 2x log cabins to rent out as a small business. They're in the process of having a second 100a single phase (next to their residential supply), but it's probably 150-160 metres away from the cabins; which has electric hobs and showers etc... They also want to install CCTV and maybe some floodlights around the pond/road on the land, which would feed from this new second supply for the business.

Does anyone have an idea what size SWA or cable they're going to need, to bring a 100a supply over circa 150m? I'm purely speculating the cost required, as I spec the network/camera equipment they're after etc. I've already told them to ask an electrician to survey and do the cable calculations for the voltage drop etc, but curious if anyone has an idea what they'd need to consider? Before the electrician fleeces them with any additional crazy ideas.

I did think about solar 5G cameras, but it's basically a forest with huge trees all around, so the solar aspect would not work well. The 5G is ironically pretty decent with EE otherwise, which they use for home internet - as they still only have 2-3Mb ADSL available!! So it's going to be a full network and PoE cameras for the CCTV side of things.

Cheers

At least 25mm2 SWA for 100A, possibly larger as it’s a long run.

For connectivity, you are trenching in the cable, you should put in a conduit at the same time and run fibre back to the house. The distance is too large for ethernet.

Starlink for internet connectivity or 4/5G, ditch the ADSL.

Yup, already planned ducting and fibre back to the house for the networking gear. Also have a few Cat6 runs in there running to the cameras as will be on poles nearby within <100m.

I'd have suggested burying the SWA next to it for the initial fibre duct leg. The civils work isn't an issue as they have someone ready with the gear to do all that.

I was more concerned about the SWA cable size/cost, I know you'd use 25mm2 SWA to a home - but was conscious of voltage drop over the distance. Which is why I've said get an electrician to confirm, but if they don't need to go much bigger than 25mm it shouldn't be too bad.

Edit: Ouch 150m of 25mm2 SWA is £1750 still!

I don't think they need it. I was wondering what's the likelihood both cabins have their electric showers and/or hobs going, so the max potential could be quite high.

But if they each have say a 63a rated DB, it might well be ok with a 25mm cable anyway.
