Electric Tyre Inflator

I was at Castle Combe yesterday for a Track Day and someone there had an electric tyre inflator that ran off their fag lighter. Call me lazy, but now I want one :p. It looked to be of a small enough size that you just keep it in your boot.

Has anyone here got one they'd recommend? I had a look on the Halfords website but they had over ten to choose from... I'm usually one of those people that over analyses every purchasing decision, but surely there can't be that much difference between them!?

On the foot pump the gauge isn't all that accurate, so I end up using a precise digital tyre pressure gauge. An electric tyre inflator that had an accurate gauge built in and eliminated the need for the separate one would be good.

Or are these rubbish and it's best to stick with the foot pump?

Sure, why not? I remember my mum's old C Class Coupe came with a compressor that ran off the cig lighter

Yeah we've used one for ages. Just don't reply on the accuracy of the gauge on them.

I've tried 2 of these compressors and I'm sure the 2nd one I tried is the one linked, on both ocassions they blew the fuse for the 12v Cigarette lighter. Any idea what might cause this?

GFs Swift has one, no spare you see. I was tempted to know if, in theory, you got a slow to moderate puncture, you could keep it plugged in whilst driving and hanging out the window to keep the pressure topped up :D

I made a thread about this quite recently

I'll find the one I purchased, Ring Automotive RAC600

It does the job brilliantly :)

Gave the wife mine like above, I liked it as you set the pressure and let it do it's thing. I now have a Maplins heavy duty one in the X6. Both the gauges are surprisingly accurate as well but always double check them with my pencil gauge.

I've had 2 Michelin branded ones. The first one died on me after about 4-5 uses. The second which I still have works but the digital gauge doesn't so I have to keep switching between my foot pump and that to get it to the right pressure.

Might give that Ring Automotive one a go.

I inherited one when my grandad stopped driving. It does the job but the gauge is completely inaccurate so I have a proper gauge for that.

I bought a Michelin one for an airfield day (Need to over inflate tyres at points on the day) and use it for everything, car, motorbike even the bicycle.

Well worth it.
