Electric Vs. Gas Cooking?

Hi all,

At my parents place they've always had a gas double over and separate hob.

I'm going into my own place soon and I will need to fit a kitchen. It's likely I will need to get the gas pipes adjusted if I go for gas. I've always been under the impression gas cooking was better/preferred? Is that true?

Any disadvantages with electric? As i'm thinking of going the electric route.
Does electric cooking work out cheaper more expensive do you think?

Hmm gas hob + electric oven would be possible.
Although I was thinking of getting one of them electric range cookers with the oven below and the hob on top.
