Electrical cackling noise from PSU cable

I have a secondary PC that I use connected to the TV in the front room. Yesterday I unplugged the PC as I wanted to use it to test a spare graphics card I had.

Afterwards I put everything back together and took the PC back downstairs.

When I plugged the kettle lead into the PSU there was an electrical 'cackling' noise (I had already connected it to the power - with hindsight probably not the best plan). This stopped when I let go of the cable.

The PC seems fine, and it's a new Corsair PSU. Was the sound simply because I had plugged in the cable to the power first or is there likely to be some sort of short somewhere? Also is my house about to burn down? :)

It's fine, it's just a loose connection between the pins in the PSU and the connectors in the kettle lead. The sparking is just the electricity jumping across the small gap.

Nothing to worry about, happens with every Dell monitor I've came across too, probably use cheap connectors.

As above, however you should always switch power off at the wall before connecting power leads. Most electronics these days can take the punishment, but some will happily go boom.

accidentally did the same the other day with my tower when I had issues, it didn't affect my computer but obviously its a major health and safety issue and who knows it could damaged the parts one day so always remember to check first :P

Aye - I wouldn't of normally, but I think in the confined area behind the TV I just found it easier. I won't be doing it again ;)
