I'm using my computer from a different room so i've got a 10m usb cable for my keyboard and mouse. The problem is it disconnects sometimes when the fridge/freezer/boiler switch on and off. What can i do to stop it? I tried a surge protector but it didn't do anything.

With the length of cable it might be a power issue, maybe a powered USB hub at the end of the cable to plug the kb /mouse into?

Either that or a more shielded cable if it is interference.

Not sure how you'd rule either scenario out without buying something though.

TBH it all depends on the quality of the 10m usb extension.. If its some 50p crap from the bay then 100% your prob.. My suggestion is the same as the others, get a rated usb extension cable and a hub :)

Would Bluetooth not be an option?

Greenteeth KB and mouse suck balls, the delay is mega :)

I thought the max cable length for USB was 5M.
Over a length of 10M you may be seeing that the interference of the external devices is just too much for the data signals to be read reliably. Use 2 X 5M with a powered hub in the middle or get an active USB cable.

Regarding the electrical noise, it's probably as likely to be in your cable via the PSU/ground as it is airborne. I know that audio things noticeably click and pop when my fridges switch their compressors on and off. That's via the devices' supply rather than an electromagnetic spike in the air
