The property i currently live in is fitted only with Electricity (no gas) And i wanted to check my rates to see how it compares with other peoples..

In the past 9 months.. ive used:

Peak: 1299 kw (seems like a lot)
Off-Peak: 321 kw (seems a bit low)

That from the date of December the 10th to September the 10th so there is a winter and 1 summers worth of heating and usage in there.. now i'm am trying to track down where its all going..

3 Storage heaters (only used at night ie. off-peak)
1 Water heater (no idea when this comes on? 24/7?)
HTPC (on 24/7)
2 Laptops
1 Desktop
Washing machine
Fridge
Freezer
Electric Shower

Thats about it.. only 2 of us live in the house. And talking to some other people on forums they seem to use far less than us despite having families of 4 etc..

Any idea? (I suspect its the water heater.. but wanted to be sure)

1600kwh in 9 months seems low to me. I have pretty much the same circumstances as you and currently use 7/8 kwh a day. Thought I was doing well at about £35 a month. You're using 6Kwh/ day (and thats with a winter thrown in). So you'll be spending on average £25 - £30 a month? How is that high?

Either i'm not doing as well as i thought or this is the worst "look how little electricity I'm using" thread ever.

I am currently paying £75 a month.. and ive been told ive underpaid £190 for the past 9 months usage which is why im so peeved..

If you are on Economy7 and have only used 321 kw of off peak electricity it might be better if you switch to a standard tariff.

I'm all electricity and have a water storage tank which comes on for 7 hours. Have 2 laptops, TV, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dish washer and the monthly cost is about £26. I also have 3 storage heaters but are yet to turn them on. Because the standard rate with Economy 7 is higher you only get a good deal if your main usage is off peak.

I am planning to fit a Timer unit on my Water heater to force it to use off-peak only which might help as I think at the moment it basically just heats the water once the thermostat tells it too..

Still don't understand how your only spending £26 a month tho.. compared with my £75! and it looks like it should be more like £100 as ive underpaid.

Currently supplier is Utility Warehouse.. but ive just switched to LoCO2.. as i wanted a renewable source.

If your in for renewable sources, ever looked into solar heating and solar panels?

Not toting business but EON are doing solar panels installed for £99, admitedly it needs to be mainly southward face roof and your bound to the panels or 25 years on that property.

But for daytime consumption they should cover the cost of appliances, and what you dont use you feedback into the grid for which you get paid x per kwh you put in.

If i refer anyone you could get it for £49 installed, i work for EON if you hadnt guessed but what im trying to say is there are options

Its rented property. I'm afraid so not an option.

Also your consumption is 4.8 peak and 1.1offpeak per day... 5.9 Units per day is REALLY low especially since you have storage heaters.

As the guy above said, are you giving them meter readings regularly? cos there's no way you should be paying £75 month with that consumption.

Sounds like they're prob billing to estimates hence the high amount... somethings not right

HIs usage is low..... the threshold for validating a meter reading/consumption for a single rate domestic meter is 45units per day, for a 2 rate meter is 85units peak 40 offpeak

Probably asking for the extra amount based on a meter reading!

It wouldnt be at all shocking if his electric was £75 a month, I assume OP has a TV / PC Monitor, electric oven/hob? phone chargers and the likes?

Ok i can list all the items in the house but i will take a while :P

I also have a LCD TV 32" (admitidly its on standby most days)
Electric Oven / Hob
A Ceiling Fan in the Conservatory..
Mobile Charger * 2 (i assume this uses about 0.0001 amp though)
Ive replaced about 80% of the house lights with Energy saver bulbs.. or halogens.

Not sure anything else out of the ordinary that would use much watts..

nope was merely mentioning all those "minor" things you overlook soon add up!

I'd consider sending in meter readings / noting down your own readings!
