We have two ceiling lights in our hall, controlled by switches at either end. One of the bulbs had blown and we didn't have a spare. What I noticed is that the other bulb (which works perfectly well) would turn itself on and off, even when the lights were suppose to be off. It worked perfectly well when switched on.

Some sort of earth fault in the other faulty bulb? I didn't even think it was possible with them supposedly turned off. I replaced the faulty bulb this morning with one from the living room just to check and they're now both behaving normally

If its a two-way lighting circuit, it's probably a problem with one of the swiches or like you said, be a problem with the earthing.

It's worryng that there is still power to the light when it should be dead - get a spark to take a look at it with a meter if you can't manage it yourself. It might cause a fire if left the way it is.
