Hi there,

I've been asked to look into an electronic sign in system for my judo club. We are a pretty large club, amongst adults, kids and parents etc. There's well over 150 people. So the system has to be upto scratch.

So far we just sign everyone in with sheets etc, ticky boxes, signatures in a book etc. This can obviously be unreliable when you ask a 5 year to sign the correct sheet.

I used to be a member of a gym. They had a card reader hooked up to there old xp machine, single core, crt job. They took the photo of you with a cheap webcam, printed it out with a barcode and laminated it. You then just swiped yourself in as you walk in the door. It worked great.

Does anyone know where I can get this sort of setup. The software? What sort of hardware will I need other than a pc? What kind of barcode reader will I get?

Any help would be magic.

Cheers.

from what i understand, it is better to use those little dongles with a reader than cards and a swiper as more can go wrong - i dont know any more than that but will be very interested in the final solution :)

You could always look into the fingerprint readers/scanners - that way no-one will forget to bring the card or what have you. I've got one on my laptop, seems pretty good to be honest, and you can buy USB ones.

Now there's a thought. Then all I would need is sign in software and to of course join the fingerprint to the persons profile, Name, Age, etc etc.
