What would you call these little tiny thingys on this PCB?
As you can see (or not, apologies for the potato photo), one has fallen off, and I'm guessing this is the reason my thermostat remote is no longer working.

Is it possible to buy these using the only information on the tiny things - "106"? If so, I might have a go at soldering one on...

Thanks!

It's either a 106 or possibly a 901. The bigger question is which way round do you solder it back on??????

Sorry I can't help :(

It'll be a surface mount resistor with a EIA-96 3-digit code (106).

The direction of mount makes no difference, it's not a diode :)

Thank you chaps, much appreciated! I will attempt soldering for the first time. Worth the try considering these old units are about 50 quid anyway

Exactly, there's always something who knows the answer, this place is a wealth of information and helpful people.

And hilly.

Keep in mind that SM resistors also come in different physical sizes. The ones in your picture look like 0805s but you are probably better measuring them before ordering.

Just for reference an 0805 SMD is 2mm x 1.25mm. You could likely get away with a slightly larger 1206 on that 0805 pad if you struggle to solder up a 2mm part.

Alternatively could probably solder a through hole resistor (using blutak to hold in place temporarily) onto the left hand pad and onto the hole further down the trace assuming nothing would be in the way.

Something like this:
