Happy New Year from Greece everyone!

Quick, basic question guys: My PC currently has a 3070, 32Gb Ram and a 5800X3D. Gaming at 1080p , frames above 60. I'm thinking of buying a 1440p monitor.
Question is: If frames drop unacceptably can i lower monitor resolution to 1920*1080 or i 'll be sacrificing image quality/ clarity? Do i remember correctly that leaving monitor's native resolution results in blurry, low quality images? Native res should be kept at all costs?

Many thanks everyone!

Personally, I would not use a 1440P monitor at 1080P. It doesn't look very good.

The way to calculate the frame-rate is approximately the same as the ratio of the number of pixels which is about 0.5. In other words your frame-rate will be halved.

It isn't quite as bad as that, because it's not linear, but if you take that as a guide then you are good to go.

You should be fine for most games but if the need arose you could, picture quality will obviously suffer a bit.

You would be better off using DLSS (quality mode) which will be about the same performance hit but look noticeably better.

You don't need to lower the resolution of the monitor, just the resolution in the specific game settings. So you'd keep your monitor at native res & refresh, then in your game just select 1920 x 1080.

Agree with @Robba44 though, you're better off keeping game resolution at 1440p and just using DLSS quality or DLSS balanced if you want to eek out a bit more frames at the expense of image quality.

3070 & 5800X3D should be plenty for 1440p gaming too, before getting this 7900XT I ran a 3070 at 1440p and rarely found myself struggling with frames below 60 in any title.
