A modern take on the cases of Sherlock Holmes, with the detective now living in New York City.

Jonny Lee Miller (from hackers)
Lucy Liu

I have watched the first four episodes and i realy like it. Funny intelligent dialogue imo and an interesting story and the acting is done very well throughout. No bad casting so far and the way he solves the cases have been cool and I think there is a lot of scope for mixing it up a bit and not getting stuck in the CSI model.

I think it is one of those tv shows where if you enjoy the characters you will like it and if you don't then you won't as there is not much else going for it.

Not a patch on the BBC version...

Still - it isn't too bad. I'll keep watching it for now. Hasn't exactly gripped me so far though.

I'm enjoying this so far, I'm just hoping it doesn't get canned. There doesn't seem to be a larger plot appearing in the background, they just seem to solve crimes in each episode.

I quite like this though it's not as good as Sherlock. I just enjoy seeing how Sherlock, in all his forms, gets to his deductions (not the tax variety as that'd be a bit boring).

I prefer this to the british Sherlock series to be honest. Johnny Lee Millar is superb as Holmes, Watson is played by Lucy Liu who doies a great job too. Its really good to see the police chief not being a dick as we are used to. Holmes comes across as uncaring but we often see a lovely side to him. There is a definite autistic/Aspergers feel to him. You really feel he is a tormented sole too.

I tend to find a lot of british actors are too ‘drama school’ for my liking (which annoys my wife as she went to drama school!) whereas the USA they tend to seem more real.

I really didn’t think we would like this but it has been our favourite drama TV show in recent weeks.

The cases are a bit too obvious too often, its not quite smart enough, but its not bad. I actually really like the cast, but it mostly differs from the BBC one in that being really short they could focus a hell of a lot more in the cases and not waste so much time on character growth/stories which made the ratio of logic/case/mystery per ep much greater. It also meant they went almost straight for the super villian rather than what I assume will be a couple longer story arc's over the season(assuming they have a super villian type).

Stuff I really hated about the BBC version that is vastly improved was the rubbish texting/on screen/trying to be "modern" way they did it, it was really quite embarrassing.

Also the stories were a bit, daft at points, it was a tad over the top really too often and I thought had a particularly weak set of non lead characters. The chinese guys, the taxi killer, etc, etc.

It is just a standard detective with an outsider assistant who has a "thing"

same as Mentalist, Monk, perception, castle etc, but it is good enough to pass an hour
