Elephant and Castle - Fire

Our residtne taxi driver will be along shortly to tell us the best routes in and out of Elephant & Castle and the most interesting fares he has carried around those parts :D

Also a random story about how rich he is.
"Oh, lots of smoke in that photo - reminds me of that time I smoked a very expensive cigar!"

Why would they allow businesses to operate underneath a railway line in the first place? Seems to be asking for trouble.

Plenty of businesses aren't constant fire hazards, but I suppose there's always a chance so long as there are flammables involved.

I wonder what the justification for arch units were? Presumably it's just maximising profit of the land?

OK, allow me to rephrase. Why would they allow businesses that are of a higher fire risk, like motor mechanics, to operate under a railway line?

Risk assessments. SOPS. Dangerous tasks can be made inherently safe with the correct controls.
