Hi all,

I have finally decided to upgrade my computer after 4-5 years and was looking at the Eliminator deal. I do a lot of animation/rendering etc so I am pretty set on the quad core but am taking time over the graphics card. Firstly im aware the 5970 is out of stock but is this just for the named versions or as the deal says they have the eliminator in stock with the standard 5970? Im not set on the 5970 as currently my 22" is only a 1680x1050 but this my well improve at some point. Im also not sure on the size of the 5970 with the 902 (may have to go for a 1200), even though you can fit it by removing drive bays. Im considering getting a named 5870 (even though this is even closer to 59xx in price) and then maybe adding another one in a year or so but the prices now for a named 5870 seems like i may as well just spring the extra for the 5970, get the raw goods now, instead of waiting.

I can afford the 5970 and really dont want to have to crossfire the 5870 too soon and having the extra power of the 5970 now would be nice

Eliminator spec.

hello mate, you set on pre bult? or whinling to have a go yourself? its a lot more fun that way also you may learn a few things. if you don't wanna slip up on RAM/MOBO/CPU/COOLER you can get a bundle and overclocked bundles :)

they do have the pre built systems in stock but the GPU will hold it up a bit however I m not sure if OCuk *hide* some for pre built systems

I would guess they hold some back otherwise they wouldnt advertise the system as in stock, same with the mobo ram cpu bundles

EDIT: AMG where is splading? :p

after all this time and we only just noticed, silly typo *fix* :p

cheers for that or it would be another year before anyone noticed, inuclding me :D

Thanks guys i guess ill ring them just to check.

Any thoughts on the gfx card situation? Its beginning to eat me, specifically is it worth forking out for a named 5870 (XFX or something) when the 5970 with double the ram for a little more?

I have had more of a look and im leaning towards getting a XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB GDDR5 and then maybe going crossfire in the future. However, i just have two questions.

1) The standard 5970 looks like it will "only" be around £150 more - do you think i should just bite the bullet and go for that to make things a little easier

2) I assume the 902 is large enough to fit crossfire 5870 and that 750w will be enough for this?

Edit: As far as building my own comp AMG I am keen to learn and have decided to practice on my old PC for a while (swapping stuff in and out - maybe mod it a bit) before building my own. Don't want to waste the money at this point but dont worry my next one will be build by moi i promise

yes but there is one thing about antec cases that annoy me the HDD/optical drive is in the way and its not long enough.

So with long cards they sort of run into your HDDs or you can't get thier power cables in or something, the 1200 is better a little but still a stuggle, which is why I perfer coolermaster or other
