Elite mmo in development

He says in the podcast that they are actually developing the tools atm, and when they have completed their project that they are working on they will go full steam ahead with Elite.

It's already been in development since at least 2004, so if they're still at the tool development stage then they can't be in any hurray. There's always a danger that the won't keep up with technology if their pace is that slow.

It's a bit like Duke Nukem Forever, it'll be ready, someday. However, I suspect Elite 4, or heaven forbid an Elite MMO, is just a fan boys fantasy tbh. There's only money, or mass interest in WoW clones and generic FPS's for the PC these days.

Not that I'm angry and resentful about it. Oh no!

Would be nice to see as Elite on the BBC was pretty much the first game I ever played, back when you needed a mortgage to afford a BBC and my mate's dad was loaded.

Whether we will see an MMO of Elite before we put men/women on Mars though is kinda unlikely :rolleyes:

Jumpgate and its up-to-date and unreleased sequel are, for all intents and purposes, Elite MMOs in everything but name.

And Elite MMO would be excellent, but I would be very surprised if we see one. Eve has that sector more or less sewn up I think.

With this game - talk of vaporware and 'never seeing the light of day' I really don't understand.

It's been a long time with no real information and we know Braben has been focussed on other games for a while but that doesn't suggest to me that the new Elite will not happen.

I think someone like Braben can make the game happen at any period using the technology available. Don't confuse what's happening with the DN4E dev team with this, I don't see any link at all. Sure there are lots of clones and projects that will never live up to Elite but now and again a game does emerge that blows everything out of the water. Some day it will happen. It's likely that Braben will be behind it but it will happen regardless. Way too much cynicism in here

I just hope it's Braben the conceives the thing and oversees every part of its development.

Just rummaging around upcoming and pending releases on a certain site and came across this!

I don't reckon this will ever come to fruition at all! Now, should I salt and pepper my hat before I eat it?
