I have been meaning to buy a 360 since the beginning, but have been bogged down with fear of the friggin thing breaking down.

I have a mortgage to pay (2 of them) and have a wife to support... so the whole "buy another one" argument is void.
Since the announcement of the "Elite" do you think that they have made hardware improvements, to ensure the friggin thing does break 1 week after your warranty has run out?

Apart from the fact that the black 360 goes perfectly with my Shuttle SED37P2 and my Samsung 226BW, would there be any advantage (if not stability) to buy the Elite? (dont care about bigger HD)

thanks

The elite is not going to be different internally to any other 360 that comes off the production line that day.
It'll go through the same solder baths and have the same (apart from the HDMI section) electronics.
When the smaller die comes out it might run cooler but the smaller die is not elite exclusive or anything like that. It might not improve relability either.

If you are worried then extend your warranty instead of paying extra for the elite console.

Buying an elite will be some guarantee that you will recieve a newer produced model over one that has had it's mob sitting in the spare parts bucket for a year and a half. I'm sure MS are constantly improving the production line process and at least internally are fully aware of the issues.

i'm sure they've made some changes to improve reliability... it's just they'll never admit to it to not upset the existing 10mil user base..

the good thing about the elite is YOU KNOW it's past Nov06 manufacturing..

After that date they changed the drives to the faster more silent BenQ..

Hmm, you guys mentioned the same thing I had in my mind, the fact that you KNOW it has been manufactured much later, and also that it's doubtful MS will advertise their improved manufacturing process.

I suspect the big attraction of the elite will be because it's on the smaller die, so it should be quieter :D

I haven't seen anything that says it will be on the smaller die. HAve you got a link?

Nah there are no changes to the internal components, i was quite surprised like, thought they would have used this to introduce the new 60nm chips.

I think that would really upset early adopters. "The only way to get a reliable unit is to by the top of the range unit........." I think it would be a serious mistake for MS.

If I was MS I'd introduce the new die across the range on all units at once.

Hehehe. I think the 360 Supreme comes before the 360 ultra super special extra mega 360 though.

Anyway you can't mock the 360 after selling yours to buy a PS3 and then a week later buying another 360 :p

I bet there is internal modifications that stop it being "modded" like the current ones. Obviously they won't advertise it though.
