iirc you have the component cable plugged in at the same time as the HDMI to use the optical out.

Edit: The above is wrong.

 Kreeee... your never wrong. Why now!

You get a small adapter which plugs into the AV socket on the 360. Gives you RCA stereo and optical out.

I always put iirc if I'm not sure or have heard it from someone else (as in this case) :)

If I'm never wrong then you agree that StarCraft is the best RTS ever? \o/

don't think you can get better than official tbh

Its digital so it doesn't matter what quality the cable is to a certain extent.

Course you can get better HDMI cables than the official ones, what a weird thing to say. May be the same picture as its digital but the actual cable may be of a better quality.

Ok no need in opening a new thread for this as its a long the same lines. I have a Philips HDTV. When I get my XBOX360 Elite I want to connect it to my t.v. My T.V has DVI in only but that's OK as I can get a HDMI to DVI lead. However for sound the only input I have for DVI sound is a basic stereo jack (like ones used for headphones, etc). So how do I get a connector go from a XBOX into a stereo jack? I have a phone to stereo jack. But thats it.

You'd need either a Stereo phono to 3.5mm Jack adapter (cheap as), or you can use optical audio output using the av module if you have a device that can receive digital audio. Hope that helps.

Noticed from this image I will be fine as shown in the bottom left of the XBOX...box there is a left/right phone output so as you suggest i can simply use a left/right phone to 3.5mm jack and should work fine. Was a bit worried as I have no digital input. But I think I have a left/right phone adapter lying around somewhere.
