I have posted several images over the last few months of Ella, she has been my go to model as she is a student and more readily available than most other people I have worked with. She wanted me to do a video of her rather than take pictures and I thought it would be a great idea to use some new lights I had.. anyway, I thought I would share with you guys...

I have just sold a C100 because of two things, firstly, I prefer the look of a full frame sensor which makes everything that bit shallower, and I really hated the resolution that so many crave.. people call the the DSLR's soft, I think that's what make them look so gorgeous for video.

When shooting with a steadicam, unless you are shooting at f13, you will miss focus a lot, particularly if the subject is moving... but I kinda like that.. "when I want it that is"...Its sharp when I need it to be, but still has that DSLR H264 softness.... which gives beautiful skin tones and helps people with bad skin...sounds contradictory but I know what I mean :)

Yeah... Raymond, I completely agree... it is repetitive.. but I had to fill 4:30 with a girl who has very little experience in front of camera and we didn't have a great deal of time to work on a story.. so its more like a portrait shoot video...

I have a Zacuto EVF... but that shot was taken using my Steadicam, that's why it was oof a bit.. but as I say.. it didn't bother me that much on this particular shot or this project as it was more experimental.

You can use programs like Colorista and to soften the face using a secondary, but it loses too much detail and starts to look blurred very easily.. I used an adjustment layer with a Gaussian blur and created a small mask in after effects and keyframed the movement on some shots to cover o few blemishes, but its far too time consuming to do it all... a more appropriate fix is using make up.. :) but it was experimental!

I have to say I'm please with your first sentence because my main focus of this whole project was composition... Composition is something that I have really been focusing my energies on lately. I'm a huge fan of the work of Jeremy Cowart and I love his use of negative space and angles within the frame. Photography is helping me pay closer attention to these details and I'm applying them to video. Thank you for your response, I appreciate your time and value your opinion!! Cheers
