Email Archiving

Any one do email archiving, from an Ex2003 server?
If so what do they use and can users search on archived emails and attachments?
We're only a small company, 36 users, but we seem to live by emails, to the point some users clock up a couple of gb in their mailboxes.

PST's are a no no before any one mentions them.
Looking for a server side solution so its totally transparent.

my personal opinon on the system is stay away from it. Unfortunately my company has already bought it and we have to stick with it.

If its something your looking at i can go into much more detail.

We use Archive Manager by Quest... it's not bad although i have nothing else to compare it to.

We use Enterprise Vault. From a users perspective it's great.

Enterprise Vault here too. Simple to use for the end user. And the recent versions now allow access via Outlook Web Access.

Ours usually just sits there and works.

We're in the process of evaluating Enterprise Vault and a solution from a company called Mimecast. They are regarded as the top solutions for this so I'd recommend having a look at them.

mimecast is not an in house solution though.

We have been looking at them as we currently use message labs for anti spam anti virus and we are comign to the end of our contract. Mimecast showed us there version of email archiving but should you loose your internet link your shafted.

its also no good for laptop users who want local copies of there archive.

EX will also work on standard storage which is always a good thing as not everyone can use APIs. Also, the Centera sucks at offing to tape... (yes, I realise this isn't recommended/the whole point of the Centera but alas policies prevail!).

Try ArcMail Defender - it's slightly different to the above as it's priced on the unit and not on mailboxes. It's available with different size storage options so do a Google search or similar to find somebody who sells it.

We had the same at my last place, I'm even a certified engineer and I still hate it. The whole thing seems unnecesarily complicated and the interface is proper nasty, saying that it does work well and is well supported.

I'd never buy it again without reviewing a few competitors more closely, we were pushed down the EAS route by a third party and instantly regretted it!

try mailmeter. Its very user friendly and has a section where a user can request a link so he/she can look at achived mail from their own account.

Yeah it seems ok most of the time, our exchange guy is off on the course soon as everyone who knew about it has left

If it's the course run by Essential in Bristol it's actually really good which surprised me, very practical and hands on in terms of what I gained from that course I'd say it's the best value for money I've been on even though it was well expensive and the Hotel I stayed in was a dump!

The software is pretty good just has a bit of a last centuary feel about it and I think for basic email archiving to reduce server load and database size it was probably a little overkill!

edited as i got a bit carried away and i have to work with essential. Dont want comments here to bit me on the ass.

i dislike the product the implementation by said company and there support.
