email + domain help

I've been using some emails from dead blueyonder accounts for a few years now, and I'm starting to think it would be a good idea to move away from them because I have no idea if/when they will be deactivated.

Thats why I'm interested in buying a domain and getting some simple pop3 email accounts on it. I understand that a domain might cost about £3 / year, but after that, I'm not sure what I need, and then who are some good companies for those services.

I did a quick search, but I probably used the wrong terms. I saw vidahost come up a couple of times - they do what I need?

you need to upload something for the google apps registration process - doesnt that mean you need a host anyway?

anyway, i have a domain, but no space attached to it. I dont think i can change cname either atm so not sure how to proceed for google apps registration

cool. i cant see how to get to that configuration page from the options available to me - no control panel access...
