Hi all, due to the nature of the business I work in there has been talk of ways of encrypting emails so that they are more secure.

Now to me it seems like a bit of a ballache having to distribute encryption keys etc when sending encrypted mails.

Does anyone know of any simple ways to tackle email encryption?

We use Sophos email appliances for this. http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/email/email-appliances.aspx

Look at the SPX Encryption. You create a rule that encrypts an outbound email based on a tag (e.g. the word ENCRYPT in the message Subject). The recipient gets an email from SPX to register for the service then the original email is sent as an Encrypted PDF that can be opened with the password the user created when registering.

Works quite well, Adobe 6.0 and above and Foxit reader as well I think.

We use and resell WatchGuard XCS appliances at work, they offer an Email Encryption Subscription add-on which works great. I have also implemented a Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall for a customer which includes email encryption in their Energize Update subscriptions, I personally haven't used it on a day-to-day basis but they seem to like it.

TLS not sufficient? Seems to be the only form of email encryption that I've had to deal with. A bit more of a pain in the older Exchange 2003 but 2007 and 2010 both support this pretty well.
