Thief 3 still looks fine when you install the improved texture mod.

Oh I definitely tried DX, its the one I convinced mummy to get

If Thief 2 is a comparable game it sounds like it is still worth a try, I recently played through DX again

Are there storyline issues? Would I have to play the first game?

I couldnt get Thief 3 to work with vista and eventually gave up

Altough Assasin's Creed 2 is not a bad thing, didn't realise it was on the cards already.
