Basically i want to cancel my gold membership and as you know its a hassle. For the past 4 weeks ive been getting emails from them asking me to put my new debit card details on. I decided not to, as thats a way i could get my membership cancelled being sneaky:)

Anyway got this email:
We have been unable to charge your credit card for your Xbox Live 12 mo. Gold Membership service(s) being billed to you through Microsoft Online Services. The following credit card is the current payment method on your billing account:

Credit card type: VISA

If your services have not already been suspended, they will be suspended within 4 days unless we receive updated billing information. If payment is due for other Microsoft services purchased with the above card, those services may also be suspended. To avoid an interruption of your services or to reactivate suspended service(s), please provide a valid credit card and a current expiration date.

To check pricing details, and to confirm your account information and payment options, go to: http://billing.microsoft.com
If you have already resolved this issue, please disregard this notice and accept our thanks.

Thank you for using Microsoft Online Services.

So if i dont do anything they'll cancel my gold membership for me?

Cant find the number?
How can they charge me without my new card details?

There's a phone number in the 360 sticky.

I really don't know if they will (or would succeed) in charging you. I suspect they could contact your bank and state that you had signed up for an agreement to pay for xbox live on a recurring basis and that since you haven't ended that agreement they may ask your bank if they can take the money directly out of your account (since you haven't instructed Microsoft to the contrary) - this is just speculation but if you don't cancel your agreement Microsoft *may* try and find another way to charge your bank account. Just phone them.

Being lazy (sorry 'sneaky') will get you nowhere.

Call Xbox on the freephone number 0800 587 1102 (taken from the Xbox.com website under the billing information) and ask them to set your account to Silver.

By doing nothing, you will get your account suspended and be worse off than reverting to a Silver account.

A few years ago I didnt renew my Live account and my card has expired. I had a few emails from MS stating my card details had expired and I must update them to continue using Live, thought this wasnt a problem and it would revert back so silver membership in due time. A month after I received another email from MS saying thank you for your payment:confused:checked my bank statement and somehow MS had managed to take payment for Live even though I never updated or used my new bank details. Someone else said on here excatly the same happening to them, so if you want to cancel always call them.

i cancelled my live account with them and they still ended up charging me (after getting the same message as OP)

i just rang them up again and then they refunded the amount :) didnt even take that long because i rang in the middle of the morning
