Looking at being able to pick up my email on the go.

At the moment i have a simple POP3 pulling email down, but as i have SBS 2003 and looking at moving to SMTP and Exchange. I want to know what the fuss is about BlackBerrys!

Can i buy one on contract, and get my email? Simple as that? Do i need SMTP or can i use POP3? Do i need BlackBerry mail server (or BES is it)?

Im looking at a BlackBerry Bold on Vodafone... but to be honest dont really know what im looking at. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Depends on what type of email your picking it up, and by that i mean personal or corporate. If its just personal then you can use pop3 . If its corporate then you would require an enterprise server (BES).

For personal email, vodafone would supply you with an [email protected] account. You would then log into their portal and add all the appropriate email accounts that you would like pushed down to your phone. Blackberry then pull the email from the specified accounts and push it down to your blackberry.

Corporate email is slightly different and id recomend talking to your it dept before buying one; there is a cost incurred for every blackberry liscence and they may not fund it. If they do, they will take your device pin, assign it a lisence and register it on the BES, your corporate email then gets pushed down to the phone.

The fuss is that they kind of just work! Very fast and reliable. Handset wise you either love them or hate them, the old ones were very much functionality over features but the bold has really changed that and is a fantastic piece of kit. Also imho there is no better keyboard on a device than on blackberry's, they feel so good and after a week or two you'll be up to a fast speed (much faster than t9 etc)
