Email problem. MBP/iphone.

When my wife had a windows laptop she would get her email to her iPhone and wether she deleted it off her iPhone or not next time she logged into her email on the laptop she would get all messages inc deleted ones (from iPhone) and ones that she already has in her inbox on the iPhone. The iPhone dosnt seem to sync the folder the next time it dose a send/receive which isnt a problem.
On the laptop and iPhone they are set up keep messages on the server so she gets all emails on both devices, knowing that if she needs to open and files attached to the emails on the iPhone they will be there on the laptop next time she logs in.
Now my wife has a new MBP and has set up her POP email through mail client on the MBP, She also has it set up on her iPhone. iPhone set to "delete from server never". MPB is set "Disabled" to "remove copy from server after retrieving" However the emails only go to whichever device request them first.
If the MPB is turned on its every 5mins and iPhone is every 15mins. So if the iPhone gets them first the MBP never gets them and she has to forward them to herself next time the MBP is turned on.

I hope you understand the above as neither device is keeping a copy on the mail server as set in the settings, so they both receive the same mail.

Update:
After re-applying setting on the MBP and doing a restart. If the iPhone recives the messages first the MBP will then receive them. but if the MBP recieves them first the iPhone dosn`t. Now to add insult to injury if the iPhone gets the email first but the MBP is switched off after switching on the MBP it dosn`t get the mail.

Dose any one know how to receive pop email on both iPhone and MBP not matter what device has recived it first when a copy of the mail is set to be left on the pop mail server, wether switch on or not. This dose work with outlook and a windows laptop.

Fixed it.

Although I new it had to be set to a IMAP account so it syncs any changes. After searching the web I found the IMAP setting for her mail provider as it turns out although IMAP was set as enabled in the settings of both devices and on the mail server the details my wife had put into her iPhone and MBP was the pop3 settings.

oh dear, google is your friend.

Now both devices are set up with the correct mail client setting and server mail is syncing correctly. mail that is moved is applying the move to both mail clients.

Hope this help some one else esp those on NTLworld.com email.
